How to insert a new topic in a help file

Topics have mandatory heading and body fields and optional synonym and index fields. To create a new topic:

  1. Move the cursor to the end of the body text for the last topic

  2. Select New Topic from the EPOC menu. This automatically inserts the fields for a new topic, including the optional synonym, index and context fields—but only if the file is based on the cshelp.dot template.

  3. Edit the appropriate place-marker text to put in your own topic title, synonyms, context, index terms and body text.

Note

Help authors need not use the New Topic menu option to create a new topic—this requires only that the title text be marked up with the Heading 2 style. The body text is then all following text up until the next topic title (excluding text marked in the Synonym, Context or index styles).
